The Outer Banks is not only a great place to visit with your family each year, with miles of wide-open beaches, three National Parks, tons of history, and incredible restaurants and unique shops, but we also offer a strong sense of community and togetherness for those who choose to live and work here. Much of that is due in part to the variety of charitable non-profits that serve this community. We come together when it's needed most. And there is no shortage of opportunities to volunteer and give back to the community groups who keep our little string of islands going year after year.
This year for Giving Tuesday, we wanted to give you, our valued vacationing families, a chance to learn more about a few of the Outer Banks’ non-profits while helping us with our donation decisions. We received an overwhelming response and are extremely grateful that our guests are passionate about giving back to our incredible community!
Each organization has received a donation from Sun Realty, with the amount determined by the number of votes received. Please take an opportunity to read about each group and learn more about the amazing services they all provide.

Coastal Humane Society is an all-volunteer charity supported entirely by community donations. Every contribution gives an OBX pet owner facing financial difficulties a hand in keeping their pet family members healthy and safe at home.

The mission of CWHF is to protect, conserve, and responsibly manage the herd of wild Colonial Spanish Mustangs roaming freely on the northernmost Currituck Outer Banks, and to promote the continued preservation of this land as a permanent sanctuary for horses designated as the State Horse and defined as a cultural treasure by the state of North Carolina.
Network for Endangered Sea Turtles (N.E.S.T.)
21.6% of votes
N.E.S.T. is an all-volunteer non-profit organization dedicated to the protection and conservation of sea turtles and other protected marine wildlife on the Outer Banks, from the Virginia line to south Nags Head.

The Outer Banks Relief Foundation eases financial burdens when tragedy strikes. Clients have suffered from issues such as cancer, serious blood or nerve disorders, spinal injuries, and multiple sclerosis. Financial assistance is given in the form of mortgage or rent payments, utility bill payments and payment of other critical household bills.

The mission of OBX Room in the Inn, a faith-based organization, is to provide hospitality, food, and shelter to homeless adults on the Outer Banks during the winter months and support services year-round.
