Happy 135th Birthday Currituck Beach Lighthouse

On December 1, 1875 the beacon of the Currituck Beach beacon standing 162 feet tall filled the remaining "dark space" on the coast between the Cape Henry Lighthouse in Virginia and Bodie Island Lighthouse. The red brick exterior was left unpainted to distinguish it from other lighthouses.

The lighthouse, a restored keepers house and gift shop are located at 1101 Corolla Village Road, next to the Currituck Heritage Park in the Corolla Village. Cost to climb the lighthouse is $7 for anyone 8 years of age or older and children 7 and under climb for free with an adult. The lighthouse will remain open Thursdays until 8 p.m. during the summer.
