The Chicamacomico Banks Fire Department annual chili cook-off was a huge success!

Every year on the 3rd Saturday of September, the Chicamacomico Banks Fire Department holds an annual chili cook-off to raise funds for the department. This year, Real Kiteboarding and Mojo Collins started the festivities on the evening of Friday, September 17th with a Mojo Collins Blues Band concert at the Real Kiteboarding location in Waves.  The fire department also had a BBQ dinner fundraiser during the concert.

On Saturday, September 18th, the Chicamacomico Banks Fire Department's 14th Annual Chili Cook-off took place at the KOA Campground in Waves.  There were 16 Chili Chefs and well over 300 hungry tasters in attendance. Once the samples were turned in for the official judging, the attendees were able to purchase a set of cups for tasting all the various chilis. Over 200 sets of "tasting cups" were sold!

Throughout the day, there was a large raffle with prizes from stores and restaurants from all over the Outer Banks.  Hot dogs and burgers were sold while people were entertained by area musicians and bands.  There were lots of activities for children to keep them entertained throughout the day, including the rock-climbing wall from Kitty Hawk Sports and a candy-filled piñata.

The Chicamacomico Banks Fire Department provides fire suppression for the villages of Rodanthe and Waves on Hatteras Island.  It also serves the area south of Oregon Inlet to Avon village for all vehicle accidents and responds to all water rescue calls in Oregon Inlet, Pamlico Sound and Atlantic Ocean. Chicamacomico Banks Fire Chief Mike Daugherty expressed his gratitude to all those who competed and atteneded the weekend’s events and their contributions to the department.
