The Outer Banks Shrimp Cook-off is held every year on the beautiful Outer Banks of North Carolina. Chefs from across the area will create tasty shrimp dishes for attendees and judges to vote on. All proceeds benefit the Outer Banks Center for Dolphin Research. The event is held every year at Ocean Boulevard Bistro and Martini Bar in Kitty Hawk. This year it will be held November 6th, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

On October 24, 1911 Orville Wright made history in the Outer Banks of North Carolina once again, by setting a new world record in aviation by completing a glider flight that lasted 9 minutes and 45 seconds, paving the way for numerous advancements in aviation and the sport of gliding and soaring.
The World Championship of Surf Kayak kicks off today in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Over 300 competitors from 22 countries are competing in this event. Originally scheduled for Hatteras Island, the contest was moved to Jennette's Pier in Nags Head, NC after the impact of Hurricane Irene.
The Third Annual Throw Down North of Town OBX surf competition will be held Saturday, October 8th, 2011. This annual surf competition benefits the local community.
The annual surf competition is open to locals and vacationers alike. In 2011, a pro division was developed for local professional Outer Banks surfers to compete. In the pro division this year, you’ll see the likes of Jesse Hines, and Noah Synder among others.
