Celebrating its 30th year, the New World Festival of the Arts will be Wednesday, August 17 and Thursday, August 18 on the waterfront in downtown Manteo. This annual Outer Banks art show is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday and 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Free parking and a shuttle to the waterfront is available from at the College of Albemarle.

The 2011 Wings Over Water Wildlife Festival will be held November 8-13. The 15th Annual celebration will be held all across the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The festival includes birding, natural history, photography, and paddling.Participants can expericene a variety of programs. The 5th Annual Outer Banks Watermelon Festival at Kitty Hawk Kites kicks off is this Thursday, August 11 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Nags Head, milepost 12.5 This family friendly event supports the Wright Flight Foundation. The Wright Flight Foundation supports local 5th graders who achieve academic goals with flight! The foundation gives local children the opportunity to learn and explore the basic foundations and principles of flight.
We recently visited the newest restaurant in Duck, NC. The Paper Canoe offers fresh, simple food in a polished casual atmosphere with a stunning waterfront view. This ale house and wine bar also features a wood-fired oven. According to our very informative waitress, they have only been open for 2 months. Well you couldn't tell. The food was incredible and the service was top notch as well.
The Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station Museum Complex, located at Milepost 39.5 on NC Highway 12 in Rodanthe will be holding its 6th annual “American Heroes Day” on Thursday, August 4, 2011 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM in the village of Rodanthe on Hatteras Island. It will also be celebrating two other related events at the same time; the centennial of their “new replacement 1911 Life-Saving Station, and National Coast Guard Day, which is always August 4.
