One of my favorite restaurants growing  up on the Outer Banks was the Fisherman’s Wharf in Wanchese. It was closed for a few years but has been reopened by the Daniels family and it’s just as good as I remember! It’s still a treat to head down the winding road, to the end of Wanchese, where the restaurant overlooks the Roanoke Sound and sits over the “fish house” where boats deliver their fresh catch daily.

In the 70s and 80s, Circus Tent was a mainstay of Outer Banks life. It appealed to locals and tourists with its evening shows featuring music, puppet shows, ice cream and a subtle Christian message. June 18 and 19 will bring a two-day walk down memory lane as the Circus Tent returns to the Promenade in Kitty Hawk.

Top 10 Gifts for Father's Day

10. For the Dad who loves to relax: A hammock to chill out in. Nags Head Hammocks has the largest assortment of hammocks on the Outer Banks. There’s one to suit every Dad in every color.

9. For the Dad who loves to eat: A gift certificate to his favorite seafood restaurant. Short on dough, cook his favorite meal.

Five Tips for a greener vacation:

1. Leave those travel sized shampoos, deodorants, toothpastes, body washes and other toiletries at home. They create more waste than regular packaging. Instead opt for refillable travel containers, which can be used on your next vacation.

2. While you are in the Outer Banks, make use of the miles of bike and pedestrian pathways. Walking along the beach is an eco-friendly way to travel.
