On December 17 in 1903 the Wright Brothers, Orville and Wilbur, began the journey of modern aviation with the first powered flight. 107 years later, the Outer Banks remembers that historic moment with a daylong festival of events at the Wright Brothers National Memorial at milepost 7.5 on U.S. 158 in Kill Devil Hills.

The Town of Manteo celebrated Christmas at First Friday in true Elizabethan style. Every first Friday of the month by the waterfront in Manteo, locals and vacationers gather to socialize and enjoy the family friendly atmosphere. This year was no different. The night began with a large bonfire in the street. The bonfire kept everyone warm! Free Hot chocolate and hot cider was given out to help combat the chilly tempartures.
